“Are there any new arguments for privatisation?” is on tonight 5:30-7:30 at Connolly Hall, Guildford Terrace, off Hill Street. Parking available in Guildford Terrace behind hall. Speakers are Dr Bill Rosenberg of the CTU and Fraser Carson of FRESCO.
Treasury is doing work on why New Zealanders oppose privatisation when they don’t, and the government has signalled that privatisation is likely to be on National’s policy agenda for the next election. The drums are already beating for another sell-off of our assets. The free seminar will look at the reasons for and against privatisation and the way likely arguments will be posed.
The current rise of populism challenges the way we think about people’s relationship to the economy.We seem to be entering an era of populism, in which leadership in a democracy is based on preferences of the population which do not seem entirely rational nor serving their longer interests. ...
