Not often I’d repost anything from Kiwiblog, but I’ll make an exception for this:
Tom Young, who is working with Sam Johnson, on the student volunteer clean-up of affected Christchurch properties has e-mailed:
At the moment we basically have the problem that we have a lot of volunteers willing and able to help, but not enough jobs to do. I’m just wondering if any of your readers know of any properties in the Christchurch region that need a hand, we`re predominately moving silt and other earthquake related rubbish from properties. If your readers know of any properties which have this sort of damage we can help if they email sam@samjohnson.co.nz, describing the problem, their address and a contact number. If no-one is home it would be good if the owners put a note on the door giving permission for us to do the work as well.
So if any readers are in Christchurch, and would like some student help, or know someone who would – just e-mail Sam.
Well done Sam and the Christchurch students! Dunedin students are also planning to lend a hand. When so much of the media coverage of students is of the negative (drunken sofa-burning) variety, it’s great to see some of the many positive things that students do being recognised this time.

Same thing reported over on Red Alert. Plenty of volunteers – not enough enough work. Unfortunately they didn’t supply the face book page.
I was going to put the facebook page in this post but when I checked it it was down…

That’s good. I had considered taking today off work to volunteer, but figured that they were probably getting towards the end of it (having read the facebook page yesterday).
And if you’re a Cantabrian needing a tradesperson the trade industry have put together this one-stop website to help you get qualified and registered tradespeople instead of cowboys http://www.earthquakefix.co.nz
