From The Guardian:
It used to be loony left local government that attracted ridicule. Now it is the outpourings of mad mayors.
…[UK mayoral problems seem] mild in the pointlessness stakes compared with New Zealand mayor Michael Laws, who scribbled furious replies to two children when they asked him to adopt the Maori spelling for their town, Wanganui. “There are so many deficiencies of both fact and logic in your letters that I barely know where to start,” fumed the mayor, suggesting they sack their teacher and pay attention to child abuse in Maori society instead.
Laws, like former [London] mayor Livingstone, is also a host on talk radio, which must be the best place for these mouthy mayors.

So we write to the Grauniad explaining that Whanganui is actually built upon a Maori burial ground and all who seek to lead it are possessed by the spirit of stupid, each worse than the last…
Wehn the Gaurdian has a poke at the loony right you have to ask where the loony left has gone?
As for Laws they seemed totally underwhelmed. Its true, there is much less to him than meets the eye. Apart from the massive fragile ego. So very very very boring.
Laws is the perfect fit for NZ TV and newspapers. Shallow, clueless, obnoxious. There is no need for reporters to to actually know anything about any of the issues – just reprint the press releases and film upset kids.Best to paying any attention to him, I think.
Thanks Ron, thats why I read blogs to get most info, I know they can be dreadfully slanted but then again so is the regular media. Atleast on the blogs the info is advert free reducing direct editorial perversion and the subject matter less shallow. Any media tht throws up Paul Henry and Laws has got to be crap.
….”their town”….???????????
