Dan Bidois has unwittingly disclosed National’s approach to all problems. Basically everything can be traced back to giving police greater powers to deal with gangs and take their guns off them. And it is all the fault of pesky judges, some of them who are allegedly communist, and by fettering their discretion all sorts of social ills can be addressed.
Don’t believe me?
This is from a Parliamentary Services funded community newsletter being distributed to the Northcote electorate. I think a refund is in order.
Some poor Parliamentary Services employee is probably having a bad day. But Dan Bidois is the one responsible for authorising its release.
The pamphlet gives a good insight into how National assembles publicity material. There are a list of well honed talking points that are used and repeated ad mauseum. Normally within context, sometimes not.
When every problem looks like a nail the inevitable solution is a hammer. And when police, gangs, guns and judges are either praised or vilified for all sorts of issues then why not use them to explain the housing crisis.
Bidois has learned from his boss that you can say anything about any problem and maybe correct it later or not. surprised that he didn't connect the gangs to Labour's "failure."
Locking people up in prison frees up housing and in the community!
Surely that round up of Commanches would have started before the change of Government? If so I bet Mitchell doesn't say so!
You're right, ianmac. In May the Herald reported on a two year investigation of the Comancheros. https://www.nzherald.co.nz/nz/comancheros-gang-targeted-in-two-year-long-drug-and-money-laundering-investigation
And also, https://www.newshub.co.nz/home/new-zealand/2020/12/operation-cincinnati-12-gang-members-arrested-in-major-drug-bust.html and as well, https://www.police.govt.nz/news/release/six-people-arrested-following-major-organised-crime-operation-targeting-comanchero-gang
All three references refer to pre-National government action by the NZ Police.
"There are a list of well honed talking points that are used and repeated ad mauseum. Normally within context, sometimes not."
Which makes the apparent non performance of the opposition all the more disappointing.
Deflection much!!! Labour does not have the funds or the media ear!!
We are discussing what the COC are doing/ not doing in relation to housing.
"1500 places over four years" is hardly adequate, but it is Labour's fault for not getting their ideas out there?
Come on gsays, you can do better than that, after all it is not Labour doing these things, and it is COC undoing things Labour did.
Labour does not have the funds for what exactly Patricia?
To put flyers in letter boxes James
There are so many easy hits to be taken at the moment the silence is deafening. TBF this is filtered thru RNZ, it's about the only media I consume.
I've heard a soundbite from Hipkins regards CC and Luxons view on it.
Nothing following Acting
DinosaurPrime Minister Peter's brainfart denying anthropomorphic CC.As to getting their ideas out there, I genuinely feel and hope they are reconfiguring them.
The appeal to the centrists bombed last election and as we both know the problems we face (expensive energy, underfunded health, education) are caused by the pollies clinging to neo-liberalism.
My cyncism comes from the lack of an alternative narrative.
We don't know for sure that this is an error…
That's a hoot – hope no one gets sacked for putting the CoC's hackneyed old law and order bullet points under the wrong heading.
Received this missive in the mail from Dan during the week. This average Northcote voter struggled to get their head around the weird rationale used to explain the housing shortage. Occam's Razor: Most likely someone has forgotten to proof this bizarre paragraph before the newsletter went to print and out to letter boxes? However, Dan Bidois is no slouch. Perhaps he could explain – in plain words?
Non sequitur.
