   Typical teachers. So greedy and self-centered they organise pickets outside of their working hours. Working hours they’re still not being properly paid for. What a bunch of entitled pricks! /rightwingthinking

     They did the same in my final year at high school (the year there were the massive “student strikes”, lol), had protests by Barrington Mall at like 7.30am and then trundled off to class. (Though to be fair, most of them are at school by 7.30am anyway!)

   Very soon now Stephen Joyce is going to say we can’t fix it so we will just send the pay funds directly to each school. Nek minnit bu lk funding and performance pay.

     You wouldnt pay more than 2 or 3 staff without a payroll system, so still need some software than can do it. And if it was that easy just to use an off the shelf system, they would be on to it allready.

     Bulk funding still relies on a central payroll system, as the teachers are not ‘paid by the school’ . Too much opportunity for corruption.

     The ‘bulk funding’ refers to the allocation of salary funding in the same pool as general school funds.
     So that the schools could spend money saved from salaries on say new computers or renovations to the headmaster office. The paying of teachers was still done by the central payroll system under bulk funding

   Has the union scoped out a useable pay system, there must be one out there, and advised the govt of it and the change over date as teachers and schools will be loading there individual details into it starting now.
   If it’s a common one there should be plenty of parents with somne skills in it willing to donate a little time to the local school.

     Far to difficult to bodge an existing system, its definitely something you dont ask the parents to do.
     Non experts, even those with computer coding knowledge, should stay away from payroll systems

   Last pay round only 2% of people got the wrong pay and it’s only going to get better.
   This looks more political than anything else.

     BM. The government is hot on lifting ‘education attainment’, right?

     Best way to do that is have Principals and Teachers focused on teaching and learning and school support staff doing what they do to support that work.

     Instead there are teachers worrying about money in their accounts, bills and mortgages being paid and how much they will get fortnight to fortnight. Even worse for relief staff who come in to plug the gaps when permanent staff go sick, these relievers live a little week to week already. Stuff ups with their pay can make things even more precarious. Not a great way to keep teachers focused on giving their best every day in class rooms.

     Principals are best employed being the professional leaders of their school, leading the teaching and learning that takes place and providing oversight of week to week developments. Having to spend hours going through pay records, sue reports and the like takes their attention away from what they would rather be doing, to sort out pay bungles.

     Support Staff who work directly with children support the teaching and the learning that we all want for children. Their role is sometimes hidden but certainly adds to successful education.

     Admin staff are the ones in schools who keep many of the front and back office systems going which supports the efforts in the class room. Again, their time can be better spent focused on improving the overall direction of the school, not time and again going through pay bungles.

     It isn’t political. Ask almost and Teacher, Principal or School Administrator or other support staff and they would rather be focused on kids learning than having to worry about time wasting Novopay fix ups.

    BM, 2% still means around 1,800 people got their pay stuffed up and you must also remember there is a huge backlog of people waiting to receive past pays. Joyce has also predicted that things will probably get worse before they get better. This is hardly just political.

      Family member got a debt management unit letter for $150 overpay. No mention of the outstanding $500 underpay from 6 months ago…guess they are only interested in some debts
