The current rise of populism challenges the way we think about people’s relationship to the economy. We seem to be entering an era of populism, in which leadership in a democracy is based on preferences of the population which do not seem entirely rational nor serving their longer interests. ...

Act acting dodgy,
An indication of a semblance of awareness (albeit in the education, productivity, governance and infrastructure realm) that partisan rightward ho advocacy is problematic for realising agreed goals via coherent pathways.

Just dragging a quote across from The Standard feeds from Stephanie Rodgers at 1/200.
"We cannot buy into the Right’s framing, because it is the Right’s frame. If you’ve ever wondered why so many people – sensible, reasonable people – hold true to the idea that the National Party are good sensible fiscal managers and Labour are just tax-and-spend profligates, and therefore The Sacred Economy does better under National than Labour, despite decades of evidence to the contrary, congratulations: you’ve discovered the power of frames.
And importantly, critically, inarguably, vitally, carved into the bedrock of the Earth-ly: we cannot win using the frames of the Right. We do not, in fact, have to hand it to them. We will never succeed if we try to suck up to the dominant narrative about tax, wealth, productivity, and the value of human life, promising ourselves that one day – any day now – we’ll turn on a dime and change the story."
Paul the Other One reports in detail on submissions to the Justice Sub-committee on the legislation to remove Maori Wards on local bodies.
Manaia Mahuta " pointed out to the MPs that this Bill was a masterclass in how to offend everyone and influence no one". Lower Hut City Council showed "while they received thousands of submissions, 80% of them were form letters from Hobsons’ Pledge Members outside their Council boundary – driven by big money and actioned by tiny brains."
Paul has his own opinions, too:
"There was the occasional moment of awkwardness.
"Like how Deputy Chair Jamie Arbuckle would refer to Māori MPs on the committee by just their surname but Pakeha MPs got “MP” added to their name when being addressed but he corrected this by the third day."
Jamie Arbuckle is a bit of a dickhead, full of himself but god knows what that consists because there has been little evidence of substance since hes been on the Marlborough DC.
