There will be some scheduled maintenance tommorrow from about 10am for an hour or so. This is to move the site to a new server. I’ll be glad to get out of the 100% CPU that the current server is having.

    Its hard being so popular…

Could an author with better access to net than my currently over-fire-walled access put the dolphin thumbnail on this post? It feels naked without it.

  3. You’ve been dolphined!

What is it with that anyway? Are you like some damn liberal hippy programmer? 🙂

Look – when I started programming, hippie programmers were still science fiction.. It took a lot of work to bring them to reality.. 😈

(of course by that time I was a punk programmer and hippies were like dinosaurs)…

No. I suspect lprent’s avatar must have a deeper significance; something rooted in childhood that delighted and amazed the developing individuality that has the sort of sysop who will sit up for days and nights on end painstakingly dismantling some arcane pre-DOS prompt semi-compiled machine code and not complain. The dolphin symbolises the energy and perpetual youthfulness of frolicking amongst the bow waves. Beneath, we see the stabilising influence of Earth with its orbiting moon seemingly drawing the youthful energy into its gravitational influence, to temper the fresh vigour with the ancient wisdom locked in the nature of the planet. I can see just one other meme that ties these symbols together and which might also indicate the true inspiration for the avatar.

Not really. We didn’t have a TV until 1974, so I never saw Flipper as far as I can recall.

The dolphin came from seeing a book cover graphic on David Brin’s site that I liked and joining with an old Internet Explorer icon.

Ok, I flipped the site over this morning. Hopefully that should all be setup.

The worst I can see if that if ISP’s have cached the IP that people will get redirected to www4 and may have problems viewing images. It is hard for me to tell without connecting to an ISP outside of my system

  6. Ok, installed php5-gd so now I can get the captcha working… Yes.

    captcha: dump 😈
