The current rise of populism challenges the way we think about people’s relationship to the economy. We seem to be entering an era of populism, in which leadership in a democracy is based on preferences of the population which do not seem entirely rational nor serving their longer interests. ...
The server will be getting hardware changes this evening starting at 10pm NZDT.
The site will be off line for some hours.
I say what I said last friday, no more shakes please.
Elder Scrolls: Skyrim Legendary Edition FTW!
Amazingly enough, I’ve never played any of the Elder Scrolls games. Baldur’s Gate 1&2, Neverwinter Nights 1&2 and World of Warcraft – well within the type of games that I play just that I’ve never got around to actually doing so.
Most of the CPU usage over the last couple of days went into creating this.
Nice contrast between natural environment and the precise lines of technology. Looks like a real NZ contribution to the collection. I liked the Habitable one too.
NZ International Film Festival, Auckland, Rialto, Saturday, 27 July, 6pm:
The Spirit of ’45.

“Switching from populist feature (The Angels’ Share) to polemical documentary, Ken Loach summons lively archive footage and colourful survivor testimony to evoke the collective spirit that won World War II and carried over into the 1945 Labour election victory (at the expense of wartime leader Winston Churchill). The nationalisations and cradle-to-grave health care policies that Attlee’s government established so extensively were precisely the ‘society’ that Thatcher decreed did not exist and proceeded to close down or sell off. Loach’s reassertion of the old one-for-all values is explicitly directed at defending what little is left from further privatization but it’s tempting to see it too as his counter blast to the hubbub of the wicked witch’s funeral. (Knowing where his audience lies, he shock-cuts to her quoting St Francis.)”
“A stirring film, it puts an eloquent and elegant case for a more humane society” – The Observer.
“Loach movingly argues that we should look to the past for a better future” – Time Out.
(Also screening on Monday 4:15 pm, Tuesday 6:30 pm, and Wednesday 4:30 pm.)
Now we are in Croatia. Stunning country. And the litter free environment still amazes us. I try hard to find some but nil, null, void. The scenic area here for example at Plitvic lakes (Heritage park) is stunning. There are many lakes cascading their overflow by waterfall and rapids from level to level. They handle tens of thousands of tourists every day and you can walk the lake edges or cover some ground on electric powered ferries. Water depth clear to at least 8 metres. And inexpensive if you choose the right apartments and eat wisely. Sorry to go on about our summery trip when NZ fights important issues in the later winter but WOW!

With that Ianmac so beautiful – why would people come to NZ. To tour the open cast mines?
Not at all Ianmac. It makes for a brief and pleasant oasis in the middle of NZ’s current political storms. Got any pictures?
LETS GONE WARRIORS
Well done mother nature, you behaved yourself this weekend, keep it up.
