After a remark by all-your-base the other day, I’m testing how good Akismet (the WordPress anti-spambot) is.
I’ve removed the need for entering a captcha for registered and logged-in users. That is a reasonable compromise for a test as the registration is protected with a captcha.
If anything manages to get through it is (based on past performance) likely to get caught by Akismet. I’ll review this in a week unless there is a heavy flow of spam onto the site.

The current rise of populism challenges the way we think about people’s relationship to the economy. We seem to be entering an era of populism, in which leadership in a democracy is based on preferences of the population which do not seem entirely rational nor serving their longer interests. ...
The server will be getting hardware changes this evening starting at 10pm NZDT.
The site will be off line for some hours.

But – but what will we do with out captcha haiku?
Btw – the option to edit has disappeared for me recently (no changes to browser or system)
That’s not a bug, that’s an undocumented feature 😉
Edits has been missing for me when I’m logged in for weeks (if not longer). It’s why I don’t log in.
Just being a bit testing
I still haven’t got the edit back, and no changes to my browser or system either.
Cache flush and reload doesn’t work. Logging out and back in doesn’t work. So far I haven’t been bothered to peck through the cookies looking for the Standard’s and delete but I doubt that would do it either?
On a happier note – yay!! Captcha would inevitably fail when I was posting a nested comment reacting specifically to someone else’s comment, thus kicking my input to the bottom of the thread and leaving people to wonder (more than usual) what the hell I was on about.
Umm. I’ll log in as an alternate identity. This is the edit feature that allows you to edit for up to x minutes after writing comment? As admin I’m afraid that I seldom use it. But it was working for me a few days ago… Testing before dying for the night
Ok that appears to be broken at least on the linux with firefox, seamonkey, mozilla, konquerer, opera, and even IE6 under wine (don’t ask). Even after cleaning and reinstalling. Looks to me like it broke in the 2.8 update. Looking for a replacement
I’m pretty sure I didn’t have edit when logged in before the 2.8 upgrade. I haven’t been logging in for ages cos I can’t cope without edit 🙂
Odd…. I’ll have a look tonight.
Testing from
Yeah, my edit feature has disappeared as well.
Is it still missing if you log out?
Testing edit while logged out.
edit:
No, that gets it back. The reason why I noticed though is that I did have edit available while logged in earlier.
I’d register but wordpress says I’m invalid. Natzis
Is Akimset that thing that says spam blocked: 88, 121. And what is that actual spam? Botnets or something?
Yep. Bots mostly, with the occasional troll tossed in as well.
