Doofus of the week

This award has to be given to David Bennett for continuously claiming in Parliament that the Labour-Green-New Zealand First was a socialist Government.  He does not know the meaning of the word …

And also for claiming that Labour was reneging on policies before they have even had a chance to do this. And for everything else he said.

If you don’t believe me then watch the speech.

Big call to have anyone ahead of Chippy, Mickey?

  2. McFlock 2

Even if everything he says is true, “socialism at its worst” is a fuckload better than capitalism at its best.

    • Stunned Mullet 2.1

Bollocks, even though I suspect your tongue is firmly in your cheek I’d venture that virtually any ‘ism’ at its worst is a crap load worse than any ‘ism’ at its best.

      • McFlock 2.1.1

But @54sec Bennett said this government was experimenting with socialism at its worst! And if what he said is true…

    He’s changed my mind.

I’m going to have to reassess my estimate of the ‘depth’ of the National Party talent pool puddle.

When reality exposes his stupidity and ignorance, let’s troll him relentlessly 😈

    • Grey Area 3.1

I already knew it was shallow, he just emphasises how shallow. I couldn’t take any more than 1m45s and that included his congratulations to the Assistant Speaker.

This first week of the new parliament has been a real opener in showing what an unhealthy mix of vindictiveness, nastiness, deceitfulness, shallowness and stupidity many of the National MPs are, I knew they were bad but didn’t realise how deep the rotteness runs.

      • AB 3.1.1

With the Nats , there are a dozen or so at the top of the tree who have learnt how to impersonate regular people, sort of – with occasional lapses.
Below that you are definitely into the pond life.

        • Incognito 3.1.1.1

Below that you are definitely into the pond life.

You mean ‘primordial soup’ from which intelligent life is thought to originate after billions of years of evolution? Three terms (9 years) is nothing on that timescale.

I heard this nitwit on the radio in Hamilton a few weeks back. He was trying to say that no one overseas was talking about housing problems so neither should we. He thought the election campaign should instead have focused more on the situation in North Korea.

I know that National Party MPs live in a bubble but his lack of awareness that much of the western world is actually facing a housing crisis for the exact same reasons that we are was impressive.

But even if he was right about that I still couldn’t figure how that would mean we shouldn’t talk about our housing crisis although his theory that it was something drummed by the liberal media might have something to do with.

My only explanation is that like most National Party MPs he is purely a student of power – which means you have to find out what people further up the food chain think about an issue before you know what you should think.

After hearing the interview the other say I don’t think I could handle a second dose so I might pass on the video thanks 🙂

    • tracey 4.1

They are talking about it in London…

“He thought the election campaign should instead have focused more on the situation in North Korea.”

      who cares
      you’re living in ditch
      far far away over there
      is
      rocket man and tiny hands
      measuring appendages
be afraid, be afraid, be afraid
      it sure must be nice
      living in a ditch

    • Wensleydale 4.3

You don’t have to be clever or informed to be a National MP. You just have to stand behind Bill English during televised interviews nodding authoritatively and looking smug. Simon Bridges remains the acknowledged master of sycophantic head-nodding. He should really be giving lectures. Bennett should go back to shrieking at the television and dribbling on himself.

    Mickey,

Ask any Labour MP who sat on the Transport & Industrial relations select committee about this character David Bennett as he was chairman during the last several electiions national gained control as government.

My sources advise that David Bennett was a nasty type of an abusive character with nazi style tendances.

To what we heard he is a very nasty individual..

    • D'Esterre 6.1

cleangreen: “My sources advise that David Bennett was a nasty type of an abusive character with nazi style tendances.”

Although I’ve never met him, this Bennett fellow is in my family tree. One of the outer branches, obviously: it’s a very large family.

I remarked to another relative that he’s so bloody ugly, he has no business at all being in there, given that, on the whole, we’re a fairly pulchritudinous lot.

And now the scuttlebutt is that he’s nasty as well? Definitely no business being in there!

The bio information about him in our book suggests that he’s quite smart; that being so, it’s a mystery to me how he could get mixed up with the Natz.

Ah well, as my late mother was given to saying: god gave you your relatives, thank god you can choose your friends…..

      • greywarshark 6.1.1

Can’t say that he is ugly that Bennett. He’s a nob that got polished.

        • D'Esterre 6.1.1.1

Greywarshark: “He’s a nob that got polished.”

Heh, it sure reflects light well, doesn’t it! And appropriate, given how he comes across.

Still ugly, but. In this family, we have HAIR. Even with it, he’d be ugly…

  7. greywarshark 7

    David Bennett bio,

Growing up on a dairy farm in Te Awamutu, David grew to be passionate about the Waikato. After finishing his secondary education at Hamilton catholic school, St Johns, David went to Victoria University and completed a double degree in law and accounting.

    Dairy farm
    Passionate
    Secondary at catholic school
    University
Double degree in law and accounting.

Says it all. Knows the cost of everything, but not the value. Of that he knows
nothing. Smart arse, good at sucking up to the right people (those with money and land). Despite that he is –
‘Spokesperson for Food Safety, Racing, Associate Immigration’
    https://davidbennett.national.org.nz/about_david

My wish is that he be married to Paula Bennett if he isn’t already or is related to her. I think they would be a tonic for each other (add some gin to make it bearable).

“Says it all. Knows the cost of everything, but not the value. Of that he knows
nothing. Smart arse, good at sucking up to the right people (those with money and land). ”

Wow, envy exists on the left too? And so naked… Colour me disappointed. So much for pious ideology!

So Nats have their share of oxygen thieves as well. Surprise, surprise… Life goes on.

      • greywarshark 7.1.1

        syclingmad
When I saw your pseudo I knew what comment to expect. I think I have got your measure now.

        • syclingmad 7.1.1.1

What measure is that? I sit right down the middle. When I see garbage, I call it. Left or right. Came here expecting a higher standard (no pun intended!) than you’d typically get on the right blogs, but maybe no?

          • the pigman 7.1.1.1.1

“Wow, envy exists on the left too? And so naked… Colour me disappointed. So much for pious ideology!

If you’re the radical centrist you claim to be snicker then surely you’d be opposed to pious ideology?

The problem with being a hollow man is that it makes you completely transparent.

    • Incognito 7.2

So, he floated to the top and became [drum roll] … a National MP!?

  8. Union city greens 8

Whilst Bennett is truly a cock amongst equals on the opposition benches, doofus of the week has to go to that here which called Marama Davidson bourgeoisie.

Though clearly a number two, in this race, Bennett wasn’t even a close second.

  9. In a drawer filled with dull, blunt utensils bennett stands out in the gnats as a very dim spoon indeed.

  10. Kat 10

Although totally cringe worthy nonsense I thought he made a lot more sense than the other Bennett or Bridges. He could be a contender for leader after Bill gets the biff.

    Can’t help laughing…………

  11. Paul Campbell 11

I think “socialism” is this week’s natz message word, Woodhouse’s paranoid frothing in the ODT about how the reds are out to get him is another sad example

    https://www.odt.co.nz/news/dunedin/health/woodhouse-battling-extremely-red-lobby

  12. vto 12

Farming. Conducted in a 100% socialist manner – Fonterra is NZ’s biggest business and a cooperative… duh

Catholic church – as socialist as they come.

Betcha he has shares in listed companies. Or even ownership of shares with other people.. also a 100% socialist undertaking.

people coming together to achieve group-wide aims = socialism

the stupid tories don’t even understand what they do – bunch of dumbos

  13. Ross 13

the Labour-Green-New Zealand First was a socialist Government

Well, I think this government is a socialist Government. Since when did socialism become a dirty word? I’d add that the last National Government was also socialist, if you define socialism as government intervention for the purpose of helping the less well off (except National was more inclined to help its rich mates). Indeed John Key called Working for Families “communism by stealth”, but he didn’t abolish it. We don’t have a laissez faire economy, so socialism it is and has been for quite some time.

  14. Morrissey 14

    Useless.

  15. georgecom 15

‘The government doesn’t want people to get an education to get them out of poverty’
‘Thats why its scrapping National Standards’

lmao. the reason National Standards are being scrapped is because they do stuff all to lift achievement rates. Pretty much they were a bad idea and have continued to be a bad idea. Bad ideas should be scrapped. Without the NS teachers might actually have more time to focus on what actually lifts achievement standards, child centred teaching and learning.

  16. R.P. Mcmurphy 16

I watched it in real time and it was pathetic and geared to pandering to the kiwicapons who inhabit radio skawkabck.
