The Rachel Corrie got ushered into Israel, not searched at sea and then allowed to enter Gaza’s port. Israel has offered to check the cargo and pass over any that they find suitable to Palestine. Yeah right. They have been denying Palestine so much for so long, why should they make an exception for this shipment. Palestine doesn’t want handouts and social insecurity Israeli-style.

You mention Mafia-like tactics by Hamas. It is interesting that as I understand it, the Mafia got established in Sicily when it was being crushed by serial invasions. The people turned to whatever authority was available, and the mafia was a help in holding the island people together against bigger forces. People tend to react the same everywhere.
Hamas is the all-purpose organisation that seems to provide survival and policies for Palestine and ways of displaying defiance against Israel.
