yes . Good to see capable people who know the science and cant be bamboozled by reports written by farmer interest getting elected to Regional Councils.

Nick Smith must stirring up these stories about 'poor little farmers' after years of government anti democratic meddling with Ecan is going to be swept away in next months elections

Greta is an inspiration to all of her generation and a pity most millennials are not grasping/supporting their boldness to speak up for the global catastrophe about to hit us all.

I think Robert was referring to Ecan Councillor and freshwater ecologist Lan Pham who’s pictured in a dingy in the article that Robert linked to @ 1.

Well I saw that fossil John Armstrong holding forth with his reckons on this and that on the TVNZ site and I was like, WTF??? This guy has been retired for years now, he wouldd have sweet fuck all idea about what people are thinking outside his managed care unit, yet he talks as though he is still an insider…

Then I saw out of touch Audrey doping the same sort of thing. It is just a constant barrage of pro-National offense at Labour being in government.

GROZNY — A 45 minute drive outside of Grozny, the capital of Chechnya, Russia is building a special forces university in Ramzan Kadyrov’s Chechnya. Tsarizm was given a private, first look tour of the impressive site.

When completed in the near future, a sprawling campus of over 420 hectares will provide unprecedented training opportunities for elite soldiers of the Russian Federation’s Spetsnaz forces. The facility will have the capability to train 1,500 personal at the same time; many of these students will be from foreign nations allied with Russia.

We are just sponges for their crap.

They never discuss climate change now as if it was never there.

It just messes up my head with the noise behind their jabbering,

So why do they need all that pipped music behind their constant rambling?

    • Dukeofurl 9.1

      Nonsense.

There was a 3 week break in September every year ( party conferences)

What Johnson has done has removed about 4- 5 "sitting days" from the Commons schedule. The debate about Brexit has gone round and round in circles for 18 months or so. More debate isnt required.

Prime Ministers have prorouged parliament when it suits them before , Blair did it, Major did ( to get rid of questions in the lead up to an election)

Harper in Canada did it for 2 months – a month after an election- as his minority government was going to be replaced by an opposition coalition.

Australia does it every year now , to shut down the opposition controlled Senate over the long summer break.

Listening to nonsense stories about an unsusual but valid parliamentary tactic doesnt provide a dose of reality ( you should look more closely at how the Remain Mps and the Speaker have broken conventions from 1600s about being a nuetral Speaker, to derail any sort of Brexit at all)

Jimmy Nail singing on Radionz Requests ‘It was a big river’ – and thinking about those who worked on it (one of the northern coasts I guess) and the ships.

‘There was a bond between the future and the past
We used to make things so they would last’ … or such.

Wasn't he in Auf Wiedersehn Pet?

That is what the Conservatives and their Prime Monster Boorish are effectively polishing off, bonds and commitment to the idea of a working class of skilled blokes. Thatcher didn't do anything for the ordinary working people and less in the last few decades. Away from the EU they will just be making more weapons for the USA and Europe uneasily looking at them wondering what these quixotic bastards are going to do next. Like, do they have a plan, or play it by ear?

Thank you Lesley Elliott for starting The Sophie Elliott Foundation – to have begun that after the tragedy of losing your daughter is a testament to your love and strength – you have made a real difference in "educating and empowering young people about abusive relationships for nearly a decade" and now that you have to make a change I wish you all the best for the next stage of your journey. Thank you again.

"…its founder said this week that health issues, which included the onset of Parkinson's disease, meant she would end the project.

The heavy workload carried by Elliott and foundation trustee Bill O'Brien, who are both in their 70s, had also played a part in the decision.

Elliott started the foundation in 2010, in memory of her 22-year-old daughter Sophie Elliott, who was killed by her boyfriend of five months, Clayton Weatherston, in Dunedin two years earlier.

justice? you can't handle justice! You don't even know what the word means.

A trial date has been set for Khalid Sheikh Mohammad, the alleged architect of the 9/11 attacks on the US.

Mr Mohammad will be tried, along with four other men, at a military court in Guantánamo Bay from 11 January 2021.

The men are charged with war crimes including terrorism and the murder of almost 3,000 people.

The five men will be the first to go on trial, nearly 20 years since the devastating attacks in New York, Washington and Pennsylvania.

    https://www.bbc.com/news/world-us-canada-49532731

The 9/11 defendants arrived in Guantánamo having undergone at least three years of “enhanced interrogation” at CIA black sites. Mohammed was subjected to waterboarding – simulated drowning – 183 times. Hawsawi comes to court with a special cushion and is unable to bear sitting down for long after repeated surgeries made necessary by forced rectal examinations in CIA detention.

The FBI took statements from the defendants in 2007, some months after their arrival in Guantánamo, which included extensive confessions. But the defence lawyers say they were still under the sway of the preceding years of torture, which had left a “learned helplessness”.

The carbon barons people wrote solar and wind clean green energy off saying it could never replace coal as the cheapest energy source. Now a few short years later these people have to eat there words as solar and wind energy is much clearer cheaper than coal.

WHAT I'm getting at is there will be many attempts by the carbon people to put doubt in the 99.9 %, minds about carbon free flying being possible. Ma Te Wa in time this will be achieved . If there is a will theres a way.

Flight risk: can we take the carbon out of air travel?

Greta Thunberg’s zero-carbon Atlantic crossing is not an option for most. But it might be in years to come, if experiments with hydrogen, solar and batteries pay

In the global battle against carbon, aviation is one of the toughest challenges of all. Grids are getting ever greener thanks to renewables, cars are going electric, even construction is exploring new ways to become more sustainable.

But air travel is popular, dirty and, most importantly of all, hard to power with anything other than hydrocarbons

That’s where Megill comes in. The German-Canadian is seeking the holy grail of air travel – a manned aircraft powered by a liquid hydrogen fuel cell. The technology, engineered by the non-profit organisation AeroDelft which he co-founded in 2017, promises a sort of atmospheric alchemy: a power source whose principal emission is water vapour

“It’s not tomorrow that we fly fully solar aeroplanes with passengers … but it will come,” says Piccard, who points to fuel-saving aircraft towing systems (ATS) and route-optimising software such as SkyBreathe as “an intermediate way” to reduce the carbon cost of flying.

The other technology under exploration is battery-powered aircraft. Norway announced last year that it wants all short-haul flights to be electric by 2040. But sceptics counter that battery cells will never be enough to power big aircraft and long-haul flights, and that hybrid solutions will have to come first. Ka kite Ano link below.

Australian tech giant Atlassian will encourage its 3500 employees to take part in this month's global strike for climate action in a move it hopes will reverberate through corporate Australia.

The firm's billionaire co-founder, Mike Cannon-Brookes, said companies had to take their share of responsibility for the "climate crisis" and warned Australians in particular could not rely on governments "at all" to address the problem.

Are you a worker planning to strike on September 20? Email rebecca.stevenson@stuff.co.nz

In an interview with The Sydney Morning Herald and The Age, he said prominent politicians such as Home Affairs Minister Peter Dutton, who has been critical of corporate activism in the past, should "stick to [their] knitting", something Dutton has previously told chief executives to do.

Millions are expected to walk out of work or school on September 20 as part of "Strike 4 Climate Action" – inspired by 16-year-old Swedish schoolgirl and activist Greta Thunberg– to demand global action on climate change ahead of a major United Nations summit in New York the following week Ka kite Ano link below.
