The Prime Minister’s re-election team reshuffle is due out shortly.
A few retirements help.

If I were English reshuffling for talent, performance, and voter potential, here’s my top 20:

  1. English – PM
  2. Bennett – Deputy PM, Construction, Assoc. Housing
  3. Joyce – Finance
  4. (up 1) Bridges – Transport, Infrastructure, and Comms
  5. Brownlee – Leader of the House, Christchurch
  6. Adams – Social Housing, Housing NZ
  7. (up 3) Tolley – Health
  8. Finlayson – Attorney-General, Waitangi negotiations, Intelligence
  9. (up 6) Kaye – Education, Youth
  10. (down 3) Coleman – Immigration, ACC
  11. (up 9) Upston – Corrections, Courts, State Owned Enterprises
  12. Guy – Primary Industries
  13. (down 4) Woodhouse – State Services
  14. (up 3) McClay – Foreign Affairs, Trade
  15. Ngaro – Ethnic, Associate Transport, Associate Infrastructure
  16. Barry – Conservation, Arts, Seniors
  17. (down 1) Collins – Revenue, Energy
  18. (down 3) Smith – Environment, Climate Change
  19. Goldsmith – Tertiary Education
  20. Parmar (up 12) – Ethnic, Associate Health

What else can you do with this lot?

  1. Nick 1

Shuffle them out the beehive please… En masse

  2. saveNZ 3

Go on holiday – it worked for Key!

  3. Sacha 4

Fire Nick Smith completely (won’t happen).

  4. The decrypter 5

    Slot Nash in there somewhere.

  5. tc 6

Just move them about so they can spend the run in to the GE ‘coming up to speed’ and blaming their new depts for any fires stating ‘briefing inadequacies’ etc.

Move the deckchairs about all you like Bill, the swinging voters have probably already seen through it.

    • The clown photo says it all.

However,… it lacks the Stephen Kings ‘ IT ‘ which is more appropriate to how these bastards really think about New Zeanders …

  6. Anne 7

What else can you do with this lot?

Well, you could turn it upside down with Parmar (is she the woman who stood against Michael Wood?) and English at the bottom. Don’t think it would make a lot of difference.

Bennett second from bottom would personally satisfy me. 😉

    • Anne 7.1

Oops… with Parmar at the top…

      • WILD KATIPO 7.1.1

        Bennett? ,… Bennett ?

Shes already AWOL digging around in musty govt files seeking out data on how to victimize members of the public by using her position ,…

She never really was in the picture as a team player,.. she was always out for her own ends and to hell with everyone else.

        It shows.

  7. SpaceMonkey 8

Promote Smith… he needs to be seen front and centre.

And I couldn’t see Police there anywhere… is that still Collins?

  8. Pete 9

In Education a cretin will be replaced by someone who uses education as a mere political tool.

  9. It is like rearranging the deck chairs on the Titanic, but okay:

    1) Sack Jonathan Coleman and Nick Smith
    2) Take Defence and Civil Defence off Gerry – give the latter back to Nikki Kaye if she can do the extra work load
    3) Demote Tolley and Bennett

And hope the voting Gods smile on a centre-left coalition on 23 September.

  10. AB 11

    Shuffle off this mortal coil

    • Jim Bolgers already practising for that less than monumental event it seems…

Crying his crocodile tears about how neo liberalism destroyed the Trade Unions with a little bit of help from the New Zealand Institute.

As if the bastard didn’t know EXACTLY what he was doing.

      YEAH RIGHT , Jim.

  11. dukeofurl 12

    Parmar in cabinet ?
I thought it was april fools day some weeks back

    • Barfly 12.1

Election time promote minorities and women for better voting group profiles.

      • Ad 12.1.1

        You got it: Auckland

      • WILD KATIPO 12.1.2

Or desperately seek advice from the New Zealand Institute in case of the almost guaranteed Labour victory in September…

Blame it on the screaming communist left leaners maybe,,,

Or that the poor deserve to be poor …

Or Labour caused us to want to rort the Commons wealth even more than usual as compensation for our inherent notions of being born to rule…

        Whatever…

        Arseholes…

  12. Kay 13

Well that’s the end of our health system then.
And I see you’ve got no one to take over for MSD. It’ll probably start functioning now…

  13. The Real Matthew 14

Amazing talent in the National party when you have proven performers like Paul Goldsmith and Judith Collins neat the bottom of a 20 person list.

I don’t think there will be too many surprises or a bolter for that matter. Not the style of Bill English.

    • Not when you have Jerry ‘ walk through the security door’ Brownlee as Minister of defense and Nick ‘ land for spare housing ‘ Smith as members of your cabinet.

What a frikken joke they all are.

Tell me, … were these people born in New Zealand or were they just foreign agents sent to sabotage the country ?

Because the track record of these aresholes would suggest they were put here from some hostile belligerent regime that wanted to cripple the country from within.

And so far they have succeeded monumentally in their task.

    • AB 14.2

      “style of Bill English”
Bit of an oxymoron right there perhaps?

  14. Ad 15

    Brownlee Foreign Affairs!

Best of luck to Adams in Housing.

    Bennett looks under-used.

    • Hanswurst 15.1

Why wish Adams “luck” with housing? Surely the best situation would be one in which her luck remains the same as it has been in the portfolio to date, so that the real effects of policy are plain for all to see.

  15. Tamati Tautuhi 16

Very talented the National Party a Brighter Future for All New Zealanders?

  16. Sabine 17

Brownlee dropped as Minister of Defense ?
I was told on Radio NZ?

oh well. say it ain’t so.

  17. silvertuatara 18

Brownlee’s move to Foreign Affairs from Defense Minister has the added bonus for the National Government of taking Brownlee out of the SAS Afganistan Hit and Run loop.

Overseas appointments for both Matapere and now Brownlee, with John Key’s timely stepping down as prime minister and exiting from parliament have created several additional barriers to 3 of the main persons whom should have had responsibilities to have known what happened to civilian’s in the SAS operation’s detailed in the “Hit and Run” book by Hager and Stephenson being brought into any subsequent independent inquiry.

It would have been interesting to have had full disclosure as to whether Brownlee’s visit to Afganistan, prior to the immediate release of the book Hit and Run, addressed the contents in the book with the SAS and military in the know, or whom were involved in the operations. As we all know 5 eyes is purported to be able to spy on anything and it would surprise me if Key, GCSB, SIS, SAS and NZ Defense were not in the know as to what the general content was going to be released in Hager and Stephensons book.

    • srylands 18.1

No they can’t spy on “anything”.

      • SpaceMonkey 18.1.1

They have the capability so my guess is they probably do.

      • dukeofurl 18.1.2

had your ears plugged for the last 5 years have you.?

the NSA takes ‘everything’ from all the communication channels its plugged into.
The most recent expose was the encrypted channels banks use to do international transfer of currency.

NZ sensitive locations which they are ‘plugged into’ are the fibre optic cable end points at Takapuna and Whenuapai.

Hager would definity be a person of interest

The system is based on getting everything first and later looking for details of interest

  18. Barfly 19

Brownlee’s move into the foreign affairs portfolio was not a short-term one. English said: “He’s the guy we want as Foreign Minister”.

    For what err? 6months:) ?

  19. Greg 20

There shuffling the deck chairs on the titanic but the captain JFK took the last life boat whats left is a desperate attempt to ward off the fall of this government.

  20. Bruce 21

Parmar at 20 ??? Parmar is hardly Minister material. Lacks empathy

  21. Skeptic 22

(Tongue in cheek) Really Ad, I think you could shuffle these a bit better and create a real dogs breakfast for Bling. Actually, I think what you’ve suggested is probably the best he could do. Now – can you put some thought into sabotage here and create the worst shuffle he could make? I for one would love to see those picks.

  22. timeforacupoftea 23

New Zealand’s next Prime Minister – Gerry Brownley 2017.
New Zealand’s lucky strike – Gerry Brownley our next Trump for sure.

    • Skeptic 23.1

LOL – that’s actually a scary thought – trouble is – there’s a section of sheep-like Kiwis that actually would do that.

  23. mosa 24

What should Bill English do ?

Confront the damage his government is responsible for and acknowledge the corruption of his predecessor and resign.

  24. One Anonymous Bloke 25

    1. The National Party’s owners.
    2 – 20. The vegetables.

  25. RedBaronCV 26

Personally I think anyone who has used the resources of the state to access information & attack individuals who have done nothing other than speak up and in some cases not even that should be at Numbers 55-60.
    Meaning:
Judith Collins and the civil servant whose details she seemed to have leaked
    Paula Bennett attacking two beneficiaries
Nick Smith and the Family court case where he appeared to intervene

    and quite possibly others.

  26. KJT 27

Really shows the shallowness of Nationals talent pool.

Or. That decent intelligent people, do not want to be National MP’s.
