Update: Bennett has admitted that “her office” leaked. She should resign.

She doesn’t learn does she, at least now some in the media have decided not be used. Reminds me of that quote about backing rabid dogs into a corner.

    • TC 1.1

She has learned how to get the smear out there and blame someone else. Like the tops she wears those spots aint going anywhere.

      • M. Gray 1.1.1

She has learned well from her master and she still has to live in our country many people wont forget her nastiness

  2. Greg 2

Has Judith Collins got rid of a rival, I doubt Key will do anything, he doesnt have the balls.

  3. Anne 3

Surely her press secretary would not ‘release’ such information without the approval of the minister? Who is her press secretary? Why would Bennett choose to discredit Mr Dennis? He has done nothing to her. If this is true, I hope it’s the beginning of the end for the bitch – and I won’t renege on calling her such, as that is exactly what she is.

    • shorts 3.1

I would guess to deflect the story away from the work the Marae is doing, which is embarrassing for the minister

    • Draco T Bastard 3.2

He has done nothing to her.

He’s shown up the inhumanity of this government and thus must be destroyed.

      • Molly 3.2.1

“If people bring so much courage to this world the world has to kill them to break them, so of course it kills them. The world breaks every one and afterward many are strong at the broken places. But those that will not break it kills. It kills the very good and the very gentle and the very brave impartially. If you are none of these you can be sure it will kill you too but there will be no special hurry.”

        Ernest Hemingway, Farewell to Arms.

Paula Bennett’s “office” obviously felt in a hurry.

    • mickysavage 3.3

Press secretary is being thrown under a bus. Of course Bennett knew this.

    • NZJester 3.4

How dare you call her a Bitch.
Female Dogs are lovely creatures and you are insulting them with your statement!

      • Anne 3.4.1

My deepest apologies NZJester. As the former owner of three delightful ‘bitches’ that was indeed an insult to them. 🙁

  4. weka 4

None of us should be surprised. This is the government of Dirty Politics and each year that goes by entrenches this behaviour as normal in the NZ culture. And very large chunks of the MSM are complicit in that.

    • TC 4.1

The msm are a crucial part of DP being successful, they are as culpable as the instigators by being led rather than call it out and chart a course of integrity.

Serious journos swat these aside and get back to the story digging in and piling on the pressure that truth carries.

    • NZJester 4.2

Most of the non complicit MSM have been dumped in favor of National’s brown noses. You upset National and they will work behind the scenes to get you removed.

    • Draco T Bastard 5.1

I’m pretty sure that that comes under the term ‘pointless abuse’.

      • mauī 5.1.1

I’d agree, the actions coming out of Bennett’s office was pointless abuse 🙂

      • Brigid 5.1.2

Since when has any of us attained such excellence such that we do not utter a pejorative that expresses our outrage?
Admittedly it adds little to the discussion; it’s not intended to. It is simply declaring contempt.
In my opinion contempt is a most appropriate response to the ministers behaviour.

    • b waghorn 5.2

Cows are nice , she’s more what comes from under the cows tail

      • vto 5.2.1

Exactly, She aint nothing like cows, which are pleasant to be around, humble, giving, non-threatening, community minded and kindly provide milk for our tea..

Oh for more cow-like people in the world actually ……

  5. One Anonymous Bloke 6

The National Party doesn’t just need owners, it needs collaborators and enablers, so if the Minister’s press secretary is to be thrown under a bus, I’m volunteering to drive the bus, pour décourager les autres.

Don’t want to be thrown under a bus? Don’t obey vicious, quasi-legal orders from the National Party.

  6. Richard Rawshark 7

Call me cynical, call me suspicious.

Such a dumb thing to do, either her staff hate her guts, it’s a setup to get her out by her own party members as she is completely incompetent and they realize it.

Or it was leaked by someone with a great sense of when to go for the kill. That could be anyone who knew including Labour.

    • One Anonymous Bloke 7.1

Or perhaps right wingers are incompetent as a rule: first you’re incompetent, then you become a right winger; projecting your semi-conscious self-loathing onto others is a powerful coping mechanism.

    • TopHat 7.2

@mecynical @mesuspicious . She is pretty dumb, ofc her staff hate her and her party members are using this to deflect from the real issues and have already hailed the bus that she is to be thrown under.
I do agree in regards to time, now is as good as any.

      • Richard Rawshark 7.2.1

end result is what counts, will she Teflon her way out or get nailed.

Hopefully the latter, I would love to see her offices call logs.

and Judith’s, she was ever so smiley on backbenchers and flirty too, she’s dangerous, like a supervillain dangerous.

  7. dave 8

What vile nasty women this another abuse of power she doesnt belong anywhere near government she miss used police records on a vndetta for own political gain dirty politics 101 she has to resign its mr denis who outstanding new zealander here benett is something unplasant I would scrap off my boot

  8. joe90 9

How would Bennett’s staff have knowledge of an in process police investigation?.

    • Draco T Bastard 9.1

Now that is a very good question.

    • Anne 9.2

How? John Campbell has just interviewed a marae staffer.

Mr Dennis was upfront with the minister when she met him at a café last Friday. He is a former senior police officer and is under investigation for something. The investigation has been going on for a year now. I’m only speculating of course, but it sounds like somebody has laid a complaint against him. According to the staffer he is a very straight person and he wanted her to know where things were at. Whatever it is, it has nothing to do with the marae or anyone in it. He was stood down from the Police on full pay during the course of the investigation.

Madam is now blaming her staffer who – she is saying – assumed the information was already in the public domain. What BS! If it was in the public domain we would have heard about it.

      Here it is: http://www.radionz.co.nz/national/programmes/checkpoint/audio/201804473/hurimoana-dennis-under-investigation

      • Jenny Kirk 9.2.1

and what is more, Anne, no Parliamentary staffer “leaks” that sort of info – they know what they do is meant to be kept confidential. That was no accidental “leak” – the Minister would have given someone the go-ahead to do it .

      • +1 Anne that’s how I understand it

Mr. Dennis told the Minister in confidence. She went and blabbed it to her staff who subsequently thought or was told it was appropriate to blab about it to the media for some reason. Basically, she’s a big mouth who enjoys putting people’s private lives into the public domain. Which yeah, we kinda already knew…

  9. Takere 10

Look. It’s Pullah Benefits usual MO. She just can’t help attacking anyone that questions, sheds-light on her incompetence. She just can’t help herself. This is definitely a psychopathic trait she has and we’ve all seen this behaviour time and time again its a type of bullying she so violently opposes. You can’t fix crazy, you’ve just got to [r0b – deleted – no violence please]. Take her out at the next election.

  10. Sabine 11

Was she not going to have an Anti Bullying Campaign with the offspring of the PM?

Well, maybe they can start with her? This women is just simply vile.

    • Richard Rawshark 11.1

      Yep she is.

But if we had a hated national MP’s list, it would be a logistical nightmare too arrange 🙂 at the current time of historic ineptitude and self serving pathetic-ness.

  11. vto 12

If true then that is the most gross spew-inducing behaviour yet by this government.

Te Puea Marae steps in to help people living in the streets when the government wont…. so the government leaks information to make Te Puea Marae look bad…

Fuck that – what a lowly scum bitch Bennett is

edit: of course it could all be a ruse by her opponents… which would make them even worse scum…. jeez unbelievable…. no wonder people rate politicians so very low

    • georgecom 12.1

just my thoughts. these people show leadership, hospitality and humanity to the homeless, in the face of shameful government inactivity. How do they get rewarded? A pretty disgusting leak about information that is in no way related to the matter of homelessness. I don’t need to know nor want to know what the chap is or isn’t facing in terms of police action. If I need to know it will come out in the courts. What I do want to know is this Governments solution to the homeless crisis. To date I have seen precious little.

  12. Dean Reynolods 13

I hope Bennett becomes the new Nat Party leader after Key’s defeat next year. That way, National would remain unelectable.

  13. North 14

The filth of them ! Right on your entire comment @ 12 VTO. Scum. ! Not allowed to say the “b” word.

    • vto 14.1

Yes I did wonder that after the fact…

(…must think before posting … must think before posting … )

  14. Repateet 15

What’s this expectation about Ministers having ethics and morals?

This is New Zealand, where a person who has been the Minister of Justice and who is now the Minister of Police and Minister of Corrections, is Judith Collins.

Say all that slowly and consider that should a Minister of Honesty be appointed it would likely be her. (Only because her leader would be too busy to take the role.)

  15. One Anonymous Bloke 17

Right wing shit doesn’t resign. It gets flushed along with all the other leeches and corruption. At election time.

Make no mistake: these are National Party values on display, not Bennett’s, low as hers are.

  16. reason 18

Paula is also running a cruel eviction program based on voodoo cult science ……

“Housing New Zealand says much of its stock is uninhabitable. There are currently 463 state houses empty because they’re allegedly contaminated with methamphetamine”

    Read more: http://www.newshub.co.nz/politics/motel-rooms-a-prison-for-homeless-kids-2016060910#ixzz4BWvcflRy

Expert opinion differs from housing corp …….”when asked what is the actual level of contamination from just p use…and the danger this poses to any inhabitants of that house..?

he said the contamination level would be the same as in a house where people had smoked cigarettes…

and here is the rub….that it posed no danger to anyone living there..”

    http://www.whoar.co.nz/2016/op-ed-breaking-news-paula-bennett-admits-p-contaminated-state-houses-arent-actually-p-contaminated-follow-questions-wanted-ask-bennett-new-low-newsh/

And to make Bennetts housing corps fraud based eviction program even more scandalous is the ‘decontamination’ or clean up industry that is sucking in millions of tax payers money.

Between $5000 -$25000 is being spent to decontaminate something that poses negligible to zero health risks ……

But after this expensive rip off process the properties can still have double the safe amount of a REAL toxin and accumulative poison left on site …….. As in this reported instance after a ‘P decontamination’ …..” Testing showed there was no methamphetamine but a Forensic and Industrial Science report said twice the recommended level of lead was detected.” …..

and then this lead contaminated house was sold …. “Real estate agency Unlimited Potential marketed the property as a “blank canvas” and a “huge opportunity”.

I’m not sure if the marketing includes any warnings about the lead poisoning children under 6 or pregnant woman would be dangerously exposed to ……

“A 10 kg infant would only need to ingest 5 mg of house dust daily containing 1% lead to develop lead toxicity.”

Paula is running a program of Scam evictions and scam cleanups ……… The housing corp is selling Lead toxic houses …… evicted people and poor people are being loaded up with debt they can not pay which is then counted as a ( sub-prime) asset in Bill Englishes Govt accts and used to show the books are balanced ….

A lot of People need to be fired over this ………..

    • Gangnam Style 18.1

I read somewhere that the real estate agents were doing the testing themselves. I am hoping some investigative journalist has been slowly working on this story, there is a lot of information out there & won;t take too much digging to get to the bottom of it. Even state houses in Mosgiel remain empty because of ‘P contamination’.

Incidentally the large quantity of P on the Northland beach suggests most actually is imported not manufactored in state houses. In my opinion.

  17. Dv 19

What is the time line for the two critical actions

    Bennet met with Dennis
    Staffer rang TV one reporter

    Or

    Staffer rang TV one reporter
    Bennet met with Dennis

    • arkie 19.1

      First one.

“Earlier and on her way into question time, Mrs Bennett confirmed that Mr Dennis had told her of the police investigation during a private meeting on Friday.”

“In a follow-up statement issued this afternoon, Mrs Bennett said she a member of her team had told her they had discussed the police investigation with a reporter, “briefly at the conclusion of a phone call about a work matter”.

      from Anne’s link @16 http://www.nzherald.co.nz/nz/news/article.cfm?c_id=1&objectid=11656361

      • Dv 19.1.1

That must mean the info came from Bennet to the staffer.

        • ScottGN 19.1.1.1

I think it’s been established without doubt that Bennett and her office came by this information at her meeting with Mr Dennis on Friday.

          • marty mars 19.1.1.1.1

If that is the case then saying the staffer thought it was in the public domain is even weirder. The wheels are falling off the Bennett bus I think.

            • dv 19.1.1.1.1.1

Yeh at the end of conversation with the TV report.
‘oh what do you think about that guy at the marae be police investigated?

            • joe90 19.1.1.1.1.2

the staffer thought it was in the public domain

My SO the staffer says arse – a minister’s staff know the damn rules.

  18. whispering kate 20

Boy has this MP got form – what a vindictive person she is. It has to be her, no staffer is going to risk their job and disclose that sort of information to the press unless it is under direct orders from the boss. And what has happened to her lately, she looks like she has been pumped up with a bike pump. How can anybody get that huge, I just do not understand how that occurs. I think she is a very unhappy stressed woman, out of her league in the bear pit and is eating for Africa so to speak to make herself feel okay about herself – it is an illness and I think she is suffering from it. I realise this is a personal comment about her and apologise in advance of comments, but she needs medical help as she is on a collision course for either diabetes or a heart attack.

  19. Muttonbird 21

How about the Teina Pora compensation for a news dump?

Amy Adams must have got to call to run interference and go early today. And what a dump it was!

$2million of taxpayer money to cover Paula Bennett’s not inconsiderable ass.

  20. Muttonbird 23

Also, she certainly followed the National Party handbook to-the-letter in throwing the civil servant under the bus, didn’t she?

  21. Richard Rawshark 24

Calls for her Immediate resignation should be hollered from the rooftops.

She has already been sanctioned for this refusing to apologize to two ladies on a benefit who raised genuine issues.

Then commits the same act under pressure again. Her feeble excuse to what happened is so fortunate that it happens to be the only thing that would save her ass is a staffer blabbering to the press? Please do not insult my intelligence odds of that are a million to one. Staff members would not chit chat with the press. Certainly not about government business. Pull the other one Paula fullofshit.

Fkn National, Keys Staff Jason Ede remember, Foreign affairs the malasian remember staff, AGAIN, what was McCully oh staff AGAIN, it’s always the staff, anyone seeing a fkn pattern here..

  22. Richard Rawshark 25

Come on Paula who WAS the staff member?, Name them, I got to hear the staff member admit it was their fault. Because they should front to show your telling the truth, or else was it the invisible secretary you just made up on the spot trying to emulate Keys style?

Lets box her right in a corner.
Ferkin Numptional don’t even lie straight in bed!
