Tau Henare and the baubles of retirement

Tau Henare is leaving politics and is rumoured to be the next chair of Maori Television. Makes you wonder what offers were made to persuade the many other National MPs who are retiring to go so meekly.

Eddie got there before me, but yesterday seemed to be a day of nasty attacks, not just by Maggie Barry.

The real reason for the secret ballot law

Written By: - Date published: 7:35 am, May 11th, 2012 - 54 comments

The tories are all puffed up about finally getting their secret ballot law passed. It’s about freedom they say, they’re on the side of the working man.

Thing is it’s not. And they most certainly aren’t.

Scott at ImperatorFish is worried. A National Party MP’s colleagues have become increasingly concerned about his wellbeing, after he failed for two consecutive days to make a fool of himself on Twitter. Concerns were raised when colleagues of Tau Henare realised that they had not noticed a single social media brainfart from the list MP for over 48 hours.

The new foreshore and seabed deal is going sour for the government at both ends. Well, it took two minutes checking on the Stats’ website to prove him wrong.

Requiring a secret ballot of shareholders before lockouts are allowed would be a good start.

Two IR bills from the Right

Two industrial relations bills from the Right were pulled from the ballot today.

The first, Roger Douglas’ bill to restore youth rates, is just the usual ACT Party kick the poor stuff.

If you believe in it, put something on the line

It’s a strange day when you’re praising Tau Henare. But at least he’s standing up for Maori seats, unlike the pathetic display from Pita Sharples. Henare’s email brought to public attention Hide’s bullying threat to resign over the seats. Today, he kept up the fight having a go at Hide for his wag the dog tactics […]
