On the whiner’s excuse “but we are so small”

Written By: - Date published: 9:07 am, September 6th, 2016 - 20 comments

Damon over at civicanalysis wrote an interesting post over the weekend “How New Zealand can help save the world” (and then pointed my attention to it 🙂 ). It looks at what we can do to structurally alleviate climate change. But also looked at some of the economic benefits

Only unsustainable net migration fuels “growth”

Written By: - Date published: 10:22 am, September 2nd, 2016 - 107 comments

Our National dipshit ministers have decided to start a new growth industry. They importing low-skilled to extract their savings, using them to generate artificial heat in the service economy and to slow wage growth. On the way through they’re also screwing the housing market. Our current net permanent long-term migration is completely unsustainable. Perhaps it is time to vote NZ First?

Mama said was the top blog listed in NZ this month on Open Parachute. I have to say that I loved Emily Writes explanation about her long absence from writing blogs after writing a viral review of Tarzan. But it is just the essence of why most of us blog.

Upgrades again and readership growth

Written By: - Date published: 8:46 am, July 22nd, 2016 - 17 comments

Operating system upgrades this weekend. We should get a bit of a speed improvement.

But for all of those new readers (nearly 70,000 of you in May) who haven’t suffered maintenance and failures taking your reading away, if the site goes offline during this weekend (or any other time), it will return. The site runs on a financial donated shoestring and a lot of volunteered time in technical and writing skills.

Climate change and trees – a palliative and not a solution

Written By: - Date published: 12:00 pm, July 20th, 2016 - 108 comments

One alleviation for the effects of climate change is to plant trees, or some other form of vegetation. This is to suck up surplus carbon dioxide and to put it into a solid and relatively inert form. And it does. However it simply won’t work when we have rapid climate change.

Aussie – governed by a lame duck

Written By: - Date published: 11:21 am, July 3rd, 2016 - 51 comments

I suspect we are looking at a lame duck government in our biggest trading partner. While we wait for their next early election, we’re likely to see either not much happening at all, or a series of quixotic gestures aimed at bolstering uncertainty and reinforcing the need for “stable government”. I don’t “own” The Standard

Written By: - Date published: 5:20 pm, May 10th, 2016 - 44 comments

Can I point out to the media, Cameron Slater, and for that matter the legal dimwits at the West Auckland site Lauda Finem. I don’t own The Standard. I haven’t even owned the domain name for more than 6 years. I used to own the domain up until 2010. But that was signed over in that year to be the property of The Standard Trust.

Thoughts about a poppy

Back in my youth I decided that there were things that were worth fighting for when it became necessary. It is a viewpoint that I have never had to change, and it shows in what I do. If you want a society worth living in, then you need to make sure that it either stays that way, or moves towards it. Less memorials and more effort is a better way to remember our dead and maimed.

Michael Wood standing for Mt Roskill

Written By: - Date published: 3:30 pm, April 16th, 2016 - 17 comments

Michael Wood has announced his candidacy to be nominated as the Labour candidate for Mt Roskill  when Phil Goff vies for the Auckland Mayoralty. I can’t think of anyone better for that role or for winning the electorate for the left. Go young Michael. This is an unsolicited and possibly unwanted endorsement from me.

A big thank you to IDG from thestandard.nz

Why we all, readers and authors, should praise IDG Communications for the generous gift of shortening this sites domain name.

The secrecy uprising

Written By: - Date published: 2:59 pm, April 15th, 2016 - 29 comments

It is clear from John Key’s irresponsible  reaction to accusations of NZ being a loosely controlled tax haven, that we are becoming an international target. Contrast that with European reactions, and then have a look at the David Brin’s prophetic reasons for the fictional Helvitica War…

The difference between decent folk and complete idiots

Written By: - Date published: 10:17 am, February 19th, 2016 - 34 comments

For a change I’m not going to have a rip at our local idiotic politicians. The most extreme case recently being the now infamous Dildo Baggins. Lets have a look offshore where they are often even worse…

A very stupid petulant spoilt child whines again

Written By: - Date published: 4:47 am, February 19th, 2016 - 47 comments

Good news for law abiding bloggers, the foolish Cameron Slater has to find about 8k to pay for his latest legal hiding  by Matthew Blomfield. Whining about these actions to the press like Cameron always does, won’t stop the disciplinary actions. He needs to stop acting like a arsehole blogger.

Bob Carter Dies

Veteran Climate Science Denialist Bob Carter Dies of Heart Attack

Bob Carter has died. To most members of the general public, the name of that Australian geologist and paleontologist will barely register a flicker of neurons in the temporal lobe. But to the global community of professional and amateur climate science denialists, misinformers and opponents of climate policy, Carter was an influential giant. He died, aged

A letter of thanks from Nicky Hager

“On 2 October last year the police raided our home and I had the hugely encouraging experience of watching hundreds of you coming to my aid on Givealittle: giving money and, just as important, sending kind messages and giving moral support. The financial support made it easy for us to decide to launch legal action…”

Judge scammed by a legal idiot and his pet pest

Written By: - Date published: 8:29 pm, December 8th, 2015 - 36 comments

Thank the deity of your choice for that. Judge Harrison has found and courageously, in a timely manner, corrected his mistake of granting an interim court order under s18 of the incredibly badly written Harmful Digital Communications Act 2015. The problem for a judge being requested to give any injunctive order is that they only hear one side of the argument – that of the plaintiff. And in this case the plaintiff and his associates seemed to have deliberately lied to the judge.

Offending comment was made from Giltrap!

Written By: - Date published: 6:20 pm, December 5th, 2015 - 56 comments

The court order obtained by the internet pest Marc Spring against the YourNZ blog and Pete George to remove references about Spring AND his employer the Giltrap Group, was obtained using a comment made from the place of work of Marc Spring. It was probably made by Marc Spring in a deliberate perversion of the course of justice.

The comical farce of Cameron Slater et al

Written By: - Date published: 10:37 am, November 20th, 2015 - 43 comments

Cameron Slater and his associates are legal morans. This has been extensively investigated and judged on by the Court of Appeal in a judgement released yesterday. I have a wee look at it and the steaming heap of faecal matter that these idiots tried to get the judges to consume.

Chris Trotter is on fire

“What differentiates the Left from the Right is the former’s fundamental rejection of the strongest human-beings’ proclivity to dominate, coerce and exploit the weakest. Without this proclivity, none of the economic and social systems elaborated by armed minorities throughout history could have endured.”

Indeed.

More than a million comments

Written By: - Date published: 10:15 am, November 2nd, 2015 - 56 comments

As at 08:30 NZST 2nd November 2015, we passed having more than a million approved and published comments. It is a little later than was predicted by Eddie back in March 2012, but was a pretty damn accurate estimate given the vagaries of the political cycles.

Getting mommy to dispense the drugs

Now that cannabis is going legal and heading for the neighbourhood social gatherings where mothers sell addictive substances (like cosmetics and kitchenware) to each other. Lets legalize it, tax it HEAVILY, and could someone please give Helen Kelly and others like her the relief that they can use.

Cameron Slater back in court

Written By: - Date published: 4:05 pm, October 18th, 2015 - 35 comments

For the observers of the continued disaster that is Cameron Slater, here is a snippet observed in the High Court list for tomorrow. There is a first call for action against him for contempt. A new application? He only just got done for 7 charges.

Argghh! The comment bug

I have spent a few hours been chasing the bug that has been causing people to go into moderation automatically. Found it, killed it, and I thought I’d share it with you.

John Armstrong – a person worth disagreeing with

Written By: - Date published: 9:14 am, October 17th, 2015 - 25 comments

Today John Armstrong published his swansong at the NZ Herald. He is losing his long battle with Parkinson’s disease. Like most things that John wrote, it is worth reading. Certainly that was how he was regarded here. More than 500 of our 17,000+ posts referenced his work.

As expected, TPPA gives a peanut return

Written By: - Date published: 9:15 am, October 6th, 2015 - 177 comments

In 15 to 25 years, long long after I have retired,  and the TPPA is fully realised. It may be worth an extra $260 million per year in possible tariff benefits. By contrast, the China Free Trade Agreement within 5 years was increasing our exports each year by an extra $350 million. But the costs for the TPPA start as soon as it is signed. We may make a profit off it in 10 years. This is not a good deal.

Increase productivity. Make builders subject to criminal charges.

Written By: - Date published: 8:51 am, September 23rd, 2015 - 97 comments

Nick Smith is being his usual dickhead self again suggesting that self-certifying electricians, directly subject to criminal prosecution, are the same as self-certifying builders who do not. The Government’s rules reduction taskforce is repeating the same mantras from the 1990s that lead directly to the destruction of productivity by National’s policies to create leaky buildings.

The Nation: On Paddy Gower being impatient

Written By: - Date published: 3:36 pm, September 19th, 2015 - 59 comments

The Nation has been putting highlights up on Youtube. The one that caught my attention was Paddy Gower not listening, and redefining his question partway through. Eventually Andrew Little had to force the ever interrupting Paddy Gower to stop and listen to the answer.

Cameron Slater – still technically (and legally) incompetent

Written By: - Date published: 12:31 pm, September 19th, 2015 - 17 comments

Loaded with paper and irrelevant arguments, Cameron Slater managed to add 7 counts of contempt of court to his every growing sheet of convictions. It is a pity that he doesn’t put that level of effort into the technical job of policing his site. I look at 6 of those convictions.

MPs are harmful to digital communications

Written By: - Date published: 8:23 am, September 11th, 2015 - 21 comments

As anticipated, what is the first complaint at this site under the Harmful Digital Communications Act 2015? Not from a kid cyber-bullied by the classmates. But by an adult trying to stifle legitimate criticism and analysis of what they wrote and distributed digitally. And they didn’t read what they were required to do under the act.

Black Monday wasn’t so bad, John Key is worse

Written By: - Date published: 8:51 am, August 31st, 2015 - 37 comments

Black Monday on the casino Chinese stock markets wasn’t a particular problem for NZ. John Key’s short-term thinking government will be. Both us and our next biggest trading partner Australia are now heavily exposed to falling Chinese imports and falling commodity prices. That is going to hurt over the coming years.

Scientists remind dickheads of their inadequecies

Ever imagine what a bull elephant’s penis looks like? Well wonder no more. Biologists kicked off a #junkoff today with this challenge. I have to say that the local trolls waving their dicks about on this site look poorly endowed and rather unimaginative.

The server will be getting hardware changes this evening starting at 10pm NZDT.
The site will be off line for some hours.
