I just received an LJ hooker mailout entitled "The Aucklanders have arrived". Palmerston North is saved. No financial upset here.
Excellent post. Thanks for this.
Wow....what the hell.
I personally know many Harper supporters. He has fostered an air of fear in Canada for both financial and personal security. As many western governments do. It's a disgrace. The Liberals are no better....another ultra "centrist" establishment party which ...
But all this really convenient for Labour, the fact they can't back out of tpp I mean. Bottom line for NZ after all the hot air is the ongoing privatisation of the public space. At some point someone is going to have refuse to submit to tired old " we have...
Very disappointed with the labour party if this is the case. Will rethink my voting certainly.
I wholly agree that "left wing" parties today at firmly to the right of anything resembling a good social policy oriented party. The "extreme centre" .
A start would be to continue the rebuilding of unions that seems to be occurring, especially in the Unted States. In NZ here I guess we need to get people thinking about what our system is, how it works and who benefits. We need to increase union ...
Good article and totally relevant I think. I am currently reading a book called The Extreme Centre: A Warning by Tariq Ali. He is arguing that most western states are basically 2 or 3 party states supporting the same policies. We have a world completely ...
That would be naughty.
Yes exactly, the young people I know laugh at this kind of thing...a bit of a joke to them. Nothing new here and it's exactly to be expected.
http://www.theguardian.com/world/2015/oct/08/russia-pay-price-syrian-airstrikes-ashton-carter-us-defence-secretary How ironic. [lprent: Generally you need to say why. Doing a raw link with a uninformative teaser is a troll pattern. In this case it appears ...
I think perhaps you are underestimating the serious economic deficiency worldwide over the last seven years. We have a tremendous deflationary bias going on, not to mention war without an end in sight. The end of the world is hyperbolic and illustrative, ...
I think this is a perceptive remark in that a soft deal is signed, that is acceptable publicly, and then the work of a death by a thousand cuts begins. I simply don't believe Pharmac is acceptable over the long term within a deal like this. I suspect most ...
Yes it's been awfully quiet on such an important and long ranged deal...basically taking us forward a generation in policy. I'm not filled with confidence.

It's interesting to read the TPP views being peddled by the other signatories to the deal. Each is playing the propaganda game and I would expect that. What I also expect is my party, a party of the left, to have a view that reflects that, not this ...
I can only conclude they are waiting to see detail of the deal, which obviously leads to the conclusion it's possible Labour will support the TPP. Leadership is lacking sadly.
Jacinda Ardern's comments are most welcome. It's good to see Labour committing to policies in the interests of the majority of our citizens. I'll take her comments at face value, bravo. http://www.stuff.co.nz/waikato-times/business/72752247/labour-to-carry...
I'm not solely describing her TPP policy changes but her role as secretary of state. The record is clear and easily searched. Centrist by our standards would be kind. As I said she is no friend of the left, and certainly no socialist, leading to many on ...
Hey Barrack, 150 yards to the green.....7 iron should do mate.
As a left leaning citizen in the US you would be compelled to support Bernie Sanders over Hillary Clinton irrespective of gender. While I would be first in line to applaud a female president it would not be at the expense of decent social policy of which ...
I have been following Helen Kelley on twitter and look forward to her tweets daily. She is such a motivational person and as was said in the post makes me feel embarrassed for how little I do.
Agree in some sense but it doesn't stop opposition in principle to these sorts deals, with respect to corporate hegemony, from the likes of Bernie Sanders and Jeremy Corbyn. It is the Labour party after all.
I hope you are correct because it's not hard to find fault with this deal, especially around big pharmaceuticals push for IP secrecy and patent extensions.
It's really disappointing to me that our main opposition party, a party of the left, is so damn mealy mouthed on this issue. We are all googling other countries media to find opposition to the TPP but at home the Labour party, my party, nothing but vague ...
Hillary Clinton seems to be following Bernie Sanders lead, both in the polls and policy. She is no friend of the left. Another Democrat solidly in the neo-liberal camp. Bernie Sanders is what has got the wind up Hillary Clinton and she is canny enough to ...
Yes of course more obtuse language from Grant Robertson, implying this or that, not quite sure. The TPP looks like a pig, walks like a pig, etc etc... http://www.cbc.ca/news/business/hillary-clinton-opposes-tpp-trade-deal-1.3261291
Wyndham....exactly. So Labour does not support the TPP right?
Agree with your sentiments but would add the push towards US corporate hegemony as well, especially big pharmaceutical companies. Trump is a buffoon.
