Josie Pagani replies

Written By: - Date published: 2:20 pm, January 3rd, 2014 - 127 comments

Josie Pagani objected to mickysavage’s post objecting to her post at Pundit, and wanted to publish this as a right of reply. That is something that doesn’t exist on this or any blog. After all there is always another site to put content up on. However the ongoing debate going on here about how the left and the labour movement should operate and communicate (from many different angles) makes it of interest.

The Left Ulterior and other tendencies

Readers of this site are probably aware that I like reading science fiction. They’d also be aware that we run this site targeted at the general left labour movement of New Zealand. Of course many other people confuse this with the Labour party. In truth it can be distinguished as being more like the late great Iain M Bank’s view of his fictional Culture which he divided up into various Mind/ship behavioural segments. It kind of fits…

Espiner becomes RNZ Morning Report host and Pagani criticises the Standard

Written By: - Date published: 11:00 am, December 31st, 2013 - 177 comments

So Guyon Espiner is the new Morning Report host and Josie Pagani thinks that commentators on the Standard are being mean to her.  Guyon’s appointment will provide some interest but Josie should reflect on the cause of criticism of her.  Could it be that her beliefs and views are not reflective of the thoughts and views of most progressives and that her use as a representative for these views is failing the need for those views to be represented?

Right Thinking: just another lawbreaking socialist villain

Normally we’d put “ImperatorFish: ” because, well, the post come from that site and from the fertile satirical mind of Scott Yorke. But in this case it is clear that someone else must have written the post. They couldn’t get the sequence of events right and they admitted to an act that a lawyer (such a fine upstanding and moral part of community) would never admit to. Has Scott has been hacked? And why does it sound like actual Cameron Slater writing on one of his better days.

Wet Dick and the Perverts (reprise)

Written By: - Date published: 5:04 pm, December 28th, 2013 - 15 comments

If we look at the google impressions and click throughs onto our site, someone could probably write a sociological paper on exactly how many hidden perverts there are that the right wingers in the council are reflecting. I have to say that that I am quite pleased that we had poor click through for the “bevan chaung naked/nude” queries.

Thank you ….

To all those making a difference and working for a more inclusive, equal, fair and sustainable society. Special thanks to Lynn for all his work for The Standard.

Cameron Slater: So who pays who?

Written By: - Date published: 4:19 pm, December 12th, 2013 - 203 comments

Looks like John Key’s communications boss Jason Ede has been busted supplying material for the most disgusting site in local politics – Whaleoil. It has long been suspected that he supplies material and possibly even writes for that site as part National’s dirty tricks team. Looks like we have some confirmation. So how much is the taxpayer paying for this public servant to blog and does he do it for his job? How much does Cameron Slater “demand” from the taxpayer to provide this service?

When the wolf cries boy

Matthew Blomfield asked for a opportunity to refute some of the bull that has been stated about him and his defamation case against Cameron Slater. I’ve put it on the site because it seems fair that bloggers help fix the unfair damage that nutty bloggers like Cameron Slater can do to private individuals. Regardless of the outcome of this long-running court case, it is quite clear that Cameron Slater has used his blog to pursue someone’s vendetta far outside the realms of “journalism”.

I think Judge Blackie got it right.

Written By: - Date published: 7:56 am, December 3rd, 2013 - 77 comments

Cameron Slater simply isn’t a journalists arsewipe. For him to claim the legal privileges, protections and authority that the journalistic profession is just stupid. In the Blackie decision I think that the judge got it right, because one thing that the blogging community should not support is undeclared paid-for advertorial prosecution of individuals by blog operators. I suspect that is what the judge saw.

Cameron Slater and the protection of journalistic sources

Written By: - Date published: 9:53 am, December 2nd, 2013 - 339 comments

Cameron Slater has been ordered in the District Court to advise on who an otherwise confidential source for a story is.  While at one level many would agree entirely with this decision there may be general considerations for the blogosphere which make this less than ideal.

Will JT be a Labour MP?

Written By: - Date published: 7:39 am, November 10th, 2013 - 457 comments

John Tamihere’s public comments this week raise deep concerns at the possibility that he could again become a Labour MP.  If it was not before it must be abundantly clear that his attitudes and beliefs are too extreme.

National’s civil war continues

Matthew Hooton said this week that Cameron Slater should put up or shut up.  Slater then promised explosive new revelations in the SST and the Herald today.  As detailed by Karol in her post The Blame Game the revelations were, but I suspect not in the way that Slater had hoped for.  Because he has succeeded beyond what I thought would be possible in converting a story about a a philandering mayor into a story of how forces on the right tried to usurp the democratic choice of Aucklanders.

Cam Slater: politely being called a lying arsehole

Written By: - Date published: 2:28 am, October 22nd, 2013 - 130 comments

I’ve been trying to think of a way of expressing my complete and utter distaste for the arsehole of the local blogs and politics. But someone beat me to it. Hamish Price has been attacked in the usual way by Cameron Slater. Here is his facebook statement in response.

This rings quite true to me from what I know of the people and timelines.

Playing dirty: The politics of contradiction

Written By: - Date published: 8:03 pm, October 19th, 2013 - 169 comments

Slater’s track record speaks for itself. As the Brown-Chuang-Wewege-Palino story unfolds, his angle on the story shifts, and the contradictions abound. On The Nation this morning,  Slater lays it out: politics is a dirty game, and that’s the game he’s playing.

In defence of Bevan Chuang

We have two politicians in trouble in New Zealand.  One is facing two years jail.  The other is facing opprobrium for inappropriate moral behaviour.  Of course the politician who breached the moral code is facing the most examination.  The character of the other woman has also been heavily scrutinised and commented on and she has gone into hiding.  Perhaps it is time that her wish for privacy is respected.

The attack on Auckland’s Democracy

With Tea Party type zeal Cameron Slater is trying to bring down Len Brown’s mayoralty.  What has happened is a tragedy for Len’s family and himself.  But as Mayor of the super city we need him to move on from this.

What should Labour do with Red Alert

Written By: - Date published: 1:28 pm, October 14th, 2013 - 130 comments

Red Alert started as a promising foray into social media over four years ago and was very successful for quite a while.  But lately it has lost its way.  What should Labour do with it?

Kiwiblog’s Dunne deal – breaking the law or breaking the rules?

Written By: - Date published: 4:27 pm, October 2nd, 2013 - 21 comments

Banner ads for UnitedFuture’s signature policy on flexible superannuation have been appearing on Kiwiblog for the last week or so with no promoter’s statement. Yesterday a post promoting the policy with David Farrar’s byline included a photo of Peter Dunne  and the parliamentary crest. After several commenters queried whether it was indeed written by Farrar, DPF responded: [DPF: It’s not a press release. It’s a paid advertisement as indicated by the tag, and also the use of the parliamentary crest which is required for advertisements by MPs]. It didn’t have a promoter’s statement either.

Crony Capitalism and Chorus

Written By: - Date published: 9:37 am, October 2nd, 2013 - 50 comments

The Axe the Copper Tax campaign has stepped up a notch with the release of a peer review of the original analysis that the tax would cost Kiwis $600 million.  The review states that the original methodology was sound and the findings conservative.  The issue itself has galvanised opposition from some of the Government’s most staunchest friends.  This is probably the first Standard Post ever to rely on comments from the Herald, the NBR, David Farrar and Matthew Hooton to justify a claim that this Government is engaged in the most basic form of Crony Capitalism.  Yes things are that bad for the Government.

Radio New Zealand apologises to David Cunliffe

Written By: - Date published: 10:35 am, September 26th, 2013 - 78 comments

rnz logoRadio New Zealand has issued an apology to David Cunliffe following Matthew Hooton’s recent smearing of him.  If only Cameron Slater would do the same because he is starting to get pretty obsessional about Cunliffe.  This may not be a bad thing as he is rapidly turning the Collins faction of the National Party into New Zealand’s equivalent of the Tea Party

National goes dirty

Written By: - Date published: 10:37 pm, September 24th, 2013 - 131 comments

It’s not been surprising to see National’s dirty tricks machine groan back to life over the last week to attack Cunliffe.

And you’ll not be surprised to know more is due over the next few days.

What is surprising is just how hamfistedly they’re doing it.

RIP Groklaw

Written By: - Date published: 11:52 am, August 21st, 2013 - 28 comments

Groklaw has been an inspirational blog for many with an interest in geekery or the law. I read it daily during the years of the SCO trial. PJ and her team were and are amazing. But now it’s over. Killed by the death of privacy, and the world that the Key-Dunne spying bill is bringing ever closer to NZ.

Is this a question buddy?

Yesterday Scoop’s Alastair Thompson started to ask John Key a really difficult question essentially about the unprecedented powers that Key is giving to the GCSB.  Key responded by walking out of the post cabinet press conference.  So much for being on top of his game.  And last night’s Auckland Town Hall was a stunner.  The Bill is due to be debated again today.  If only a Government MP or Peter Dunne would develop some principles …GCSB Key

The Failed Estate – An Australian Blog to follow

Written By: - Date published: 8:57 am, August 12th, 2013 - 10 comments

Rupert murdoch puppet masterWith Australian elections just around the corner quality Australian political blogs will be in demand.  If you want to read a refreshingly progressive and sophisticated analysis of Australian Politics I recommend Jim Parker’s blog Failed Estate.  He writes with precision on issues such as the state of Australia’s media, the undermining of Julia Gillard, and the festering sore that is the boat people issue.

Written By: - Date published: 7:28 am, August 7th, 2013 - 77 comments

600,000 comments is getting pretty large. Even more disturbingly we are almost exactly on Eddie’s predictions of getting to a million comments by the August 2015 – in a exponential growth curve. While the numbers of posts per month aren’t changing that much, the numbers of comments per post have risen to average 75 per post.  I have some charts and a bit of personal philosophy on what it all means…

This is Key’s scandal

Written By: - Date published: 12:49 pm, July 31st, 2013 - 64 comments

Key’s loyal retainers are trying to keep him out of the Vance spying scandal. Major players are straight-out lying. Sadly for Key, the evidence of the timeline is clear. This is his scandal, start to finish.

Lazy Jono on 3 News invents a story

Written By: - Date published: 7:18 am, July 27th, 2013 - 124 comments

Jono Hutchison invented a story that aired on 3 News last night. He took a single inaccurate comment expressing an opinion and wrapped a story around it as the angle. The comment he used was in my observation quite inaccurate and has escalated my opinion of Jono to that of being a lazy dickhead unworthy of being called a reporter.

No free speech at convention centre
