    If anyone thinks the National government has lost its’ touch, check out their media management.

    Last Friday, within just a few hours of the OAG issuing its Saudi sheep bribe decision, Murray McCully called a press conference before the parliamentary media had had time to read it, and he read out essentially the first paragraph or so of the AG’s statement, and then we’re all off to the All Blacks. Job done very neatly.

    Yesterday, the Department of Corrections released at 4.30pm a number of reports from months and years ago that it had been hanging on to, which showed how staff in jails had enabled prisoners to form contests in which they beat the living crap out of each other with no rules. 4.30pm of course is too late for the tv news, and largely too late for any radio news.

    And now, the morning after, we have the news-conquering US elections to smother what would otherwise be a series of Departmental sackings and Ministerial major inquiries. Open briefly for your minor democratic window, and slam hard shut.

    Whoever is running the plays inside Key’s office, they are still to be reckoned with.

      A half decent MSM would make an even bigger deal of these issues due to the sneaky timing as they’d be waiting for these bad news dumps knowing the govt is trying to sweep them under the rug.

      Good journos take great pride in picking up such issues and serving it back up in prime time when pollies least expect it…..not here of course.

            Well Mr Guyton, Im shocked that you do not like infantile use of name calling. But Given on this blog Shonkey, Donkey, Nazts (or something like that), ponytail puller, are common usage and far worse comments are used frequently about National members, or supporters are rarely pulled up, and from memory never questioned by yourself as being infantile, its a little hypocritical of you to start now because its someone you get behind.

            And if Angry Andy dosnt want to be called that – perhaps he can take some coaching about how he comes across. It will probably do his blood pressure the world of good also.

To justify your own name calling by squealing, “but they started it!!!” further cements the impression you give of being a “youngster” in your mode of expression.                 So what you are saying that its infantile and comes across as lightweight as squabbley because Im saying it about Andrew Little on a left wing blog.

                But if I use the same terms (or similar) about someone of the right its OK and would be considered a mature form of communication?

                You can see how stupid that comes across right?

                If name calling is bad – then its bad. You shouldnt get to choose just because of someones political point of view.

                Even the labout party principles include: Equality in human rights regardless of race, sex, marital status, sexual orientation, gender identity, age, religious faith, political belief or disability.

                ** Note to mod – not saying this is a labour party blog etc – but saying that the labour party have this as a princible as little (the subject of this conversation) is the leader.

                Do you disagree with this?

          How else do you explain the fact the John Keys millionaires GFC bailout was never reported in any of our media ????????

          I’ve still to find out how many millions he was gifted by the American taxpayers….

          When he was saved from his losses for being a useless greed driven investor ……

          Perhaps you could help me James? …… the answer will be found once we know how many Merrill Lynch shares he had as it was falling into bankruptcy …..

          Or in how many Bank of America shares he has now …. as his bailout charity came in the form of a share swap gift ….. when worthless Merrill ones were swapped for Bank of America ones.

          How may millions in charity did our millionaire merchant banker PM take from ordinary and poor people in the U.s.a ????

          I’d like to find out and our news media seemed to have a blackout on the story …. providing zero information.

      Saudi Sheep has been all over the news since last Friday. Problem is the opposition went all in on the bribery aspect of it, which the AG found no case to answer. That blunted the ability of the opposition to make anything out of…

      Kelvin Davis went all in on Private Jail contractors being at fault for fight clubs. Now it has been shown that Union staffed prisons are no different, it is embarrassing for Davis and the Union.

      Will be interesting to see how Davis / Labour decide to react to this. Its now not so easy to just blame Private contractors.

        I think the Saudi deal was an absolute clusterf**k and McCully should be gone but, unfortunately, I don’t think its an issue the public cares all that much for so National won’t get much of a hit against it

          Hey again, Pucky. What’s your opinion about Key’s statements about the importance of what McCully did? He seems to be saying that it’s nothing to be concerned about (the bribery, misleading Parliament etc.) because a trade deal with the Saudi’s is now more likely. Do you support that view? Do you think such behaviour is acceptable, as Key is claiming?

I notice you are careful, still, not to use Key’s name or describe any detail at all about what he does, but that’s your “quarantining” way, annoying to people who would like to have a more in depth discussion with you, but you’ve got it down pat, so no hope of progress there. Do you get the incongruity of your forcing discussion on aspects people here don’t want to discuss by employing your trollish techniques, contrasted with your own, “I’m not interested in discussing that” close down when someone might like to tease out a Key-centred issue?         I’m not blaming Labour, I’m pointing out that Kelvin Davis doesn’t care about prisoners either and was merely using it a club for attacking National with (which is fine, hes in opposition so hes gotta do what hes gotta do)

        Davis used the fight club at Mt Eden to highlight that is what happens when the Government use a Private Contractor like Serco to run a prison, and that type of behaviour would not of happened / and or would have been stopped very quickly in a Union staffed prison.

        It seems Kelvin Davis was wrong.

    ‘Open Letter’ / Request from ‘Anti-privatisation / anti-corruption Public Watchdog’ Penny Bright, for speaking rights under ‘Public Forum’ at the Extraordinary Meeting of Auckland Council Governing Body, 10 November 2016.

    Dear Mayor Phil Goff,

    My intended subject matter, is the need for statutory compliance by Auckland Council elected representatives and staff, regarding the ‘Rule of Law’ which pertains to transparency in the spending of public monies, particularly on public services currently provided by private sector consultants and contractors.

    In particular, the Public Records Act 2005, and the Local Government (Auckland Council) Act 2009.

    Given that I have been successful in obtaining a Local Government And Environment Select Committee Report, regarding my concerns on the current lack of transparency particularly with Auckland Council Controlled Organisations (CCOs) with their spending, I look forward to the opportunity to formally (and briefly) share with this new 2016 Auckland Council, my constructive recommendations for a positive path forward.

    In essence, how can you have genuine transparency and accountability without full and accurate public records, available for public scrutiny?

    How can you act in a fiscally prudent way, which enables genuine ‘cost-effectiveness’ in the spending of public monies, unless you first know exactly where the ‘costs’ fall?

    How can you start preparing any future Auckland Council planning without first having this vital information on Auckland Council and Auckland Council Controlled Organisation (CCO) spending?
