NRT: Meh

Written By: - Date published: 12:06 pm, September 1st, 2015 - 92 comments

Today the government announced the four candidates for John Key’s vanity flag referendum: three ferns (one of them the logo of Immigration NZ and the Companies Office) and a koru. And really, all I can say is “meh”. So how about defining a good way of doing a informal or invalid vote on this stupid first referendum on selecting John Key’s underwear..

The Flag will make us rich

John Key thinks the new flag will make us all rich and be worth billions.

Maori language is not boring, John Key

Written By: - Date published: 8:06 am, August 2nd, 2015 - 146 comments

John Key has managed to insult an idealistic young woman and Maori at the same time by saying that her suggestion that Maori Language week should be extended was boring.

It is looking likely that the Australian Government has broken its own laws and international treaties by paying off people smugglers. Did John Key know? Did he approve of what may be criminal activity?

Reid Research Poll: Nats, Key slump.

New Reid Research poll; National, Key tank. Opposition parties nudge 50%. Little, Peters rise in preferred PM.  Taxi for Mr Key?

Sheepgate

Written By: - Date published: 8:54 am, May 28th, 2015 - 103 comments

It has emerged that the New Zealand Government has paid money to a Saudi businessman allegedly to settle a legal dispute that does not exist but more probably to persuade the Saudi Government to enter into a free trade agreement.  Update – and maybe there was a threat of legal action but because of the actions of National, not Labour.

Curiouser and curiouser

Written By: - Date published: 10:13 am, May 19th, 2015 - 22 comments

Creepy Key has dodged a question from the Green Party about any contact he may have had with the New Zealand Fox News Herald in the lead-up to Rachel Glucina’s hit job on the cafe worker who’s ponytail he pulled.

McCready back again on Key’s harassment

Written By: - Date published: 9:23 am, May 15th, 2015 - 23 comments

I’m all in favour of holding Key accountable for his actions in general, but not when the victim herself has asked McCready to desist. McCready should respect her wishes.

McCready case thrown out

Given that Amanda Bailey asked McCready to withdraw his case, this is good news.

Calling people names

Pulling ponytails and calling people names – I guess it’s true, the PM is 11 years old.

Uncomfortable reading for Key

Two opinion pieces yesterday make uncomfortable reading for Key.

Embarrassed? Us?

“John Key … hopes he hasn’t embarrassed New Zealand in the wake of the embarrassing saga, which made headlines worldwide.” Ummm….

Worst. Interview. Ever.

Written By: - Date published: 9:30 am, May 4th, 2015 - 85 comments

On Radio NZ this morning John Key gave an interview that was cringe-worthy, defensive and accidently hilarious. The man is a joke … and not even an original one.

Key on women’s rights

Key dodges women’s rights issues in Saudi Arabia. For obvious reasons really. In other media coverage of ponytail fallout…

I Fought the Law

A quick look at the legalities of Ponytailgate as it affects the worker, the cafe, the NZ Herald and the PM. There could be court, tribunal and commission hearings that drag on for months, with potential big financial and political implications for the players.

Of all the ways Key could have shot his leadership and his legacy in the foot – this really was the stupidest.

The difference between a surplus and landing a 747 on a pinhead

Written By: - Date published: 11:55 am, April 14th, 2015 - 16 comments

John Key’s latest pronouncement is that achieving a budget surplus is as difficult as landing a 747 on a pinhead.  Michael Cullen must be a super airline pilot if this is the case.

Say – did you hear the one about the escaped pedophile killer cannibal with ebola? John Key reckons its hilarious!

Key apology not genuine

Written By: - Date published: 7:39 am, November 12th, 2014 - 219 comments

Key’s apology isn’t genuine, he is still playing the political weasel. Key didn’t “misinterpret the question”, he was just displaying the same level of empathy as his favourite blogger.
